The BCCI’s decision to exclude Pakistan’s name from Team India’s jersey for the Champions Trophy 2025 has ignited a significant controversy.
A Pakistani news outlet claims that the ICC, cricket’s governing body, has responded to the matter. According to the report, an ICC official stated that it is mandatory for every participating team to display the host nation’s name on their jerseys. The official further warned that failing to adhere to this rule could lead to potential repercussions.
ICC’s Stand: Compliance is Mandatory
“It is the responsibility of every team to include the tournament logo on their jerseys. All teams are obligated to comply with this rule,” an ICC source was quoted as saying by the Pakistani website.
This escalating controversy raises questions about India’s position. Will the team eventually be required to add “Pakistan” to their jersey, or will they maintain their stance?
Champions Trophy 2025 Details
The upcoming Champions Trophy will follow a ‘Hybrid Model,’ with India playing all their matches in Dubai. The Gaddafi Stadium in Pakistan remains in poor condition, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not provided a concrete explanation for the delays. While the stadiums were initially expected to be ready by December 2024, the PCB missed the deadline. The new completion target is January 25, 2025, leaving the ICC’s approval of these venues uncertain.
Meanwhile, the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) will host India’s matches during the tournament. India will begin their Champions Trophy campaign on February 20, 2025, against Bangladesh, followed by a high-stakes clash with defending champions Pakistan on February 23, 2025.
